New European Aerospace Park and Cluster

The Southern Group Business Advisors (SGBA) are working in conjunction with Vaucluse Developpement, and actively promoting the investment in a new Aerospace Park, based alongside Avignon Airport. Ideally located to serve France, Italy, Spain and Switzerland the park will become the third largest Aerospace hub in France, after Toulouse and Paris. The region has the 2nd highest GDP per capita in France (after Paris), and France ranks 3rd worldwide in terms of hourly productivity (behind Norway and the US), well ahead of Great Britain and Germany.  Source : BIT 2007

Active Clusters include Pole Pegase. The region has 75,000 employees in Aerospace working for 8 industry leading companies and SME's, all supported by Academia and 31 R&D test centres.

Companies wishing to develop European business that would like to hear more about the project, and how they can benefit from the opportunity and incentives, please contact Ian Thomas at SGBA. Try

Business Opportunities

Following the UKTI trade mission to Russia in March 2010, UAC has sent us a list of their Tier 2 and Tier 3 product requirements for the MS-21 programme.  Please click here and here for information and list of MS-21 Tier 1 partners.

If people are interested in pursuing these opportunities with UAC, can you please, in the first instance, please contact me at neil.semple@ukti.gov.uk

At the Farnborough Airshow on 20 July, A|D|S signed a MOU on aerostructures co-operation with their Russia counterpart the Union of Aviation Industries (UAI). The MOU ceremony was attended by the UAC President, Alexey Fedorov, so this underlines the desire of the Russians to engage with the UK aerospace sector.
We also hope to organise an inward mission by UAC to visit the UK, with a provisional date of October 2010. Details of this mission, and other UKTI events, will be on www.ukti.gov.uk

SEEDA Funding for Space
We are pleased to announce that SEEDA has approved £1.5m of Collaborative R&D funding for this year in support of the aims of the International Space Innovation Centre at Harwell. The funding is aimed at supporting businesses operating in the south east of England. We are particularly keen that the funding should support both upstream (space technology) and downstream (data user) companies - in particular, companies that may be able to use space derived data in new ways or new sectors.

The first tranche of funding is available as a space related "overlay" to the Technology Strategy Board's current competition - "Collaboration Across Digital Industries" (http://www.innovateuk.org/content/competition/collaboration-across-digital-industries-mainstream.ashx).

Timescales are very short for this competition as the closing date is 19th August so please contact Colin Baldwin at SEEDA as soon as possible.   Please click here and here for the main competition guidelines and an additional document regarding the space related funding.

If you have any opportunities you would like to advertise to our membership, please get in touch.
